On 22nd March 2017, the Rotary Club of Playa Coronado received an urgent request for additional funds to help pay for a new special needs classroom to be added at 'Farallón' School.  Construction was about to start. Rotary agreed to donate $1,200 to allow the new classroom to be completed before the rainy season starts.  The classroom is due to be completed imminently, see below for the full details and pictures.

'Farallón' School currently teaches approximately 135 children in the age range of 4 to 12 years.

A need was identified for an additional classroom to support children with learning difficulties or special needs.  There is a teacher but she currently uses any available space and does not have a permanent room in which to have furniture and teaching materials.  A full-size classroom is not required, but enough space to hold a maximum of 10 people.

An estimate of $2,500 was obtained for the building works, using local labour ($700) and materials ($1,400), with a further $400 for furniture (tables, chairs, cupboards or shelves).

The room is to be situated in a vacant space between the existing building and the perimeter fence nearest the main road through 'Farallón'.

The school has received help in the past from the residents of Decameron and continues to do so however locally raised funds (from a memorial Golf Tournament) and donations will cover $1,300 and hence there is a shortfall of $1,200).

The Rotary Club of Playa Coronado was approached and agreed to meet this shortfall.
